SECONDARY INDUSTRIES

MANUFACTURERS' INTERESTS OFFICERS OF ASSOCIATION "I think it can be taken quite definitely now that the secondary industries of the Dominion are accepted and are part of the social structure," said Mr. J. A. O. Allum, president of the Auc&and '< Manufacturers' Association, in commenting upon the report at the annual meeting of the association yesterday. The meeting, which was held in Milne and Choyce's Reception Hall, ■was attended by about 80 members. Tha association, the president continued, had had another very successful year, and was in a sound financial position.. Much had been done to promote the interests of manufacturers, many applications having been dealt with. Mr. Allum also emphasised the fact that the most harmonious relations had continued to exist between the primary industries and the secondary industries. , The greatest task before manufacturers at present was'the formulation of an industrial co-ordination policy. This would result in the greatest efficiency, with the lowest cost to the public, provide capital with a reasonable assured return, ensure at least the workers' standard of living, and ensure trade flowing through channels recognised by the Dominion s social system. 1 The president considered that the large number' of able men leaving the Dominion to gain further education or experience abroad, and not returning, 'was a tragedy. There was room for those men in the primary and secondary industries, and the sooner their value was recognised the better it •would be for the Dominion. The report and balance-sheet, a summary of which has already been published in the Herald, were adopted. The following officers were elected: r—President, Mr. J. A. C. Allum; vice-presidents, Messrs. F«.N. Ambler and A. W. Parker; general committee, Messrs. A, G. Brown, V. H. Dearsly, W. K. Fowler, A. Harvey, run., H. Hitchon. J. F- Holloway, W. M. Kerns, A. G. Menzies L. C. Miller, O.' B. Plummer, R. C. Porter, A. J. Shackell, J. A. Steele, J. P. Stevenson, W. J,' Truscott and C. A. Whitney. Mr. 8. Takle will also _bo a member of the committee as the immediate past president, Mr. N. A. Duthie, ,was re-appointed auditor. . ,
