GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MRS. H. DEARSLYjf - WELL-KNOWN AUCKLANDERS | Two well-known Aucklanders Mr. and Mrs. H. Dearsly, who during a residence in the city of nearly 45 yearehave been closely interested in church and social activities, will celebrate their golden wedding to-morrow. Mr. Dearsly was born in Nelson 73 years'ago. Educated at the West Christchurch school, Mr. Dearsly was a keen volunteer and a member of the champion rifle team. He was also an active member of several rowing and football clubs. All his life Mr. Dearsly has been connected with the leather trade and after his marriage in Christchurch to Mrs. Dearsly, who came from Gloucester. England, he came to Auckland. At that time there Mas a strike in the leather ' trade and together with a few others he formed the company now kninra ais Dearsly'sj Limited, and business was set up in the old temperance hall mAlbert Street, Keenly interested in the activities of the Baptist Church, Mr. Dearsly'was, for 43 years church treasurer, and for 21 years was superintendent of,the Sunday school. For a period he was .vice--president of the World's Sunday School Association. He is a life member of the Museum Institute and is a charter member of the Rotary Club. _ The promoting of secondary indujr tries in New Zealand has been fosterpd by Mr. Dearsly and he was one of thft foundation members of the Manufacturers' Association, having occupied tb,o position of vice-president and president He has also held the positions of president and secretary to the Boot Manufacturers of New Zealand. As vice-presi-dent of thegLeague of Nations TJnio:n he is a stroqp supporter of the League. Mrs. Dearsly, who is 71 years of age, was well known for her social work during the war years. She is a member of the Auckland Lyceum Club and is a keen worker for any public, benefits. Mr and Mrs. Dearsly, who reside in Benson and -Upland Roads, Remuera, are receiving many congratulations, and members of the firm of Dearsly's, Limited, are giving a staff celebration this evening.
