RUNAWAY MOTOR-CYCLE

SOMERSAULT OVER BANK Though blood streamed freely from wounds on his face and hands, Thomas Hartigan, of Stratford, a young man, aged 21 years, miraculously escaped moro serious injury when his motorcycle, out of control, somersaulted over a bank 20ft. or 30ft. high and pinned him faco downward on a barbed wire fence, states tho Taranaki Daily News. Mr, Hartigan was travelling to New Plymouth along Te Arei Road. Near a corner on tho main north highway he attempted to pass a cyclist, but the camber of the road and the weight of a delivery sidecar attached to tho motor-cycle apparently swung tho machine off its track. Tho cyclist's head was dashed against a fencing post, the force stunning him, and his faco and hands were torn by tho sharp barbs. He was taken to the New Plymouth Public Hospital. Tho motor-cycle was scarcely damaged.
