STUDENTS FOR NEXT YEAR STATEMENT BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Interviewed to-day in reference to the training of student teachers next year, tho Minister of Education, the Hon. S. G. Smith, said 550 new st/hdents would be admitted to, and allocated between, tho Auckland and Christchurch training colleges. A number of tho students would be university graduates, and would bo admitted for ono year only, but tho great majority would bo required to undergo a two years' course of training. Students who wished to bo admitted for a one 3*car's course, said the Minister, may apply in anticipation of qualifying for their degrees in tho university examinations now in progress. Education boards could accept applications up to November 18. SCHEME FOR EMPLOYMENT INSTITUTE'S SATISFACTION [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday "The new scheme announced by the Minister of Education for tho employment of thoso teachers at present serving undor tho rationing scheme will give general satisfaction to tho profession," stated Mr. G. R. Ashbridgo, secretary of tho New Zealand Educational Institute, in an interview to-day. "The schemo fully meets tho claims which recently have been made by the institute, and provides for standard rates of salary to all trained teachers, ho said. "It should, of course, be clearly understood that by February next year 8o per cent of tho present rationed teachers will ho needed for normal stalling requirements. It is. however, very gratifying to see that tho surplus of teachers will bo employed on scale rates, until they receno ordinary positions."
