DAMAGE BY HAILSTORM

THE WANGANUI DISTRICT [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI, Thursday A heavy hailstorm was experienced yesterday afternoon in the Makiriki Valley. The storm was accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning. In many places trees were stripped almost bare of their foliage. At one farmhouse 10 miles from Wanganui the weight of hail caused a verandah, 30ft. by 12ft., to collapse, cutting off the telephone and electric light. The hail was particularly heavy in Wanganui, and caused flooding in some business premises.
