FAIRFIELD BRIDGE

BETTER PROGRESS MADE RIVER LEVEL LOWER [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday t With the lowering of the level of the Waikato River consequent on the approach of summer, better progress is being made with the construction of the Fairfield Bridge. The two land piers and the bridge decking on the eastern and western banks have been completed. The staging is ready for the construction of the arch between B and C 'piers on the eastern lside, and C pier is well advanced. Some 60 piles have to be driven to complete the foundations of D pier. A contractor is at work preparing the approaches on the western side. It is estimated that the bridge will be completed in eight months' time.
