DRAINAGE SCHEMES
COST TO ELLERSLIE PROPOSALS SUPPORTED Satisfaction with the progress made by the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board in its metropolitan schamo was expressed by the Ellerslie Town Board last night. The chairman, Mr. H. J. White, reported that he had attended tho Drainage Board's recent meeting and submitted copies of the reports then considered. Mr. White said the schedule of the estimated annual charges in respect of tho Brown's Island scheme assessed Ellerslie's share at £406. This was equivalent to id in the pound on Ellerslie district's present valuation. The apportionment ror Ellerslie in rospect or the Manukau scheme was estimated at £628, which was enuivalont to jd on the present basis of rating. These apportionments were based on the assumption that the schemes would, if carried out, be subsidised by the Unemployment Board. Mr. "White said the estimated cost to Ellerslie ratepayers was remarkably low. "If the major scheme is favoured and put through tho actual annual cost to the majority of ratepayers in Ellerslie would be about 9a per annum," added Mr. White. "It would be a cheap outlay for a permanent solution of our flooding problems caused by storm water," remarked Mr. A. H. Mclntyre. Other members expressed approval and tho board decided to give full support to the'proposals.
