OVERDUE WATER RATES
THREAT TO DISCONNECT MOUNT ALBERT DECISION Ratepayers in the Mount Albert, borough whose water rates are outstanding are to bo advised that steps will bo taken to disconnect the supply failing satisfactory arrangements for payment being made within 14 days, according to a decision of the council last night. No supply will be actually disconnected, however, until in the opinion of a committee the facts of the case warrant such action being taken. The town clerk, Mr. T. R. Congalton, reported that on 101 properties mortgaged to the Crown outstanding water rates exclusive of the current year amounted to £965. The number of j-ears outstanding varied from four to 14. "In very few cases," Mr. Cougalton continued, "is the nominal owner making any effort to pay anything at all and in most cases no payment has been made on either general or water rates for some years." He added that a considerable number of properties which were not mortgaged to the Crown were in a similar position in respect of water rates.
