The match was played in warm weather on a hard, dry ground. Wangnnui had the best of the first half, and shortly after half-time led 9—B, but the superior fitness and combination of tho Wellington team overran the homo side in the end. Barry. MrNeile. Wells and Ongley played an outstanding game in the Wellington van, and Pollock, in the five-eighths line, was tho best back. Wanganui was werl served in the Inst line of defence by Welsh, but Campbell, the fast centre, was handicapped because of the slow inside backs; nevertheless, he showed glimpses of his true form by scoring two good tries. Davidson. McItttyre, Steere and James were Wanganui s best forwords. Pollock was conspicuous by tho manner in which he badly fooled the opposing five-eighths line and made openings for the backs. For Wellington tries were scored by \\ arehnm (3). Hansen. McNeile. McGreevey and Wells. Pollock converted two and Baldwin one For Wanganui. Campbell scored two tries and Mclntyro and Davidson one each. Morgan converted one- try and kicked a penalty goal. '* • - '
