OPENING CEREMONY INDUCTION OF PRESIDENT A VICE-REGAL TRIBUTE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Receded September 10, 7.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 10 Colour and ceremonial marked the opening of the British Medical Association's annual meeting in the Melbourne Town Hall to-day. In the presence of the GovernorGeneral, Sir Isaac Isaacs, and distinguished medical men from all parts of the Empire the new president, Sir James Barrett, was inducted into office. Many of the 1500 delegates wore brightly-coloured academic robes of scarlet, violet, old gold or green. An eloquent tribute to the medical profession was paid by His Excellency. He described it as " a beneficent firmament created to light the path of tha human race." In his presidential address Sir James Barrett summed up hospital finance methods in England, Victoria and New Zealand. He said that if people were taxed for hospital purposes they -were not likely to make voluntary contributions. Late this afternoon special services were conducted in St. Paul's and St. Patrick's cathedrals. The functions this evening included the president's reception in the Town Hall.
