LARGE EARTH FALL

CLIFF AT DEVONPORT LOSS OF VEGETABLE GARDEN The recent heavy rains have caused a fall of a large portion of the eliif face above the Navy's oil storage tanks at Devonport. One house, below which % the major fall has occurred, now stands only a few feet from the edge, about 25ft. of what was formerly vegetable garden having slipped away. Large cracks have appeared in the cliff face nearer Devonport and resi* dents are surprised that further slips have not occurred. In this part, however, the nearest house is some distance back. On most parte of the cliff face there are heavy clumps of pampas grass which will probably prevent any more heavy i The falls occurred mostly during tho day time and caused little concern, particularly as there appears to be no likelihood of any more from the property principally concerned.
