MILK ACT AMENDMENTS
Sir, —The various interests so heatedly attacking and defending the proposed amendments to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act promulgated by the Milk Council seem to have lost sight of an aspect of the position which must be of primary importance when the bill comes before the House. When the repeal of the original Act was considered by Parliament in 1934 a parliamentary committee was appointed to report on the working of the Act, and to make recommendations thereon. This committee reported that the Act in its present form was satisfactory, but that the Milk Council as at present constituted was not best fitted to safeguard the interests of the public and the producers, and recommended the reconstitution of the council as the most urgent reform. I understand that the proposed amendments asked for by the Milk Council contain no clauses which would in any way alter the present constitution of the Council. It certainly does appear that before any further powers are asked bv the Milk Council the recommendations of the parliamentary committee should be complied with. Interested Citizen.
