PACIFISM
Sir, —I should like to ask the pacifists; Is Britain the same strong nation to-day as she was, say, 20 years ago? Her defences are in a deplorable condition, while France, Germany, Russia and Italy are rushing their armaments forward as fast as they possibly can. England set a wonderful example after the war and reduced her armaments considerably, the other nations promising to do so, but not one of them has so much as scrapped a rifle bullet. Russia to-day has a large army ready to take the field at a moment's notice, besides thousands of aeroplanes and hundreds of submarines. Germany, France and Italy also have enormous resources at their command. What for? Certainly not for playing round in their respective backyards. No, Air. Pacifist, these nations are looking for trouble, and as they all hate Britain most intensely, it is easy to see in which direction they are all looking. Why not preach pacifism to them, and cease trying to make out that this Empire of ours is such a bloodthirsty one? A Believer.
