FESTIVAL OF DRAMA
GOOD ENTRIES RECEIVED COMMENCEMENT ON MONDAY r Excellent entries have been received for'the annual festival of community drama to be held by the Auckland branch of the British Drama League m the Town Hall concert chamber for a week commencing on Monday night. Entries total 26, which shows an increase over last year s total. The final list of entrants includes the following producers:—Mesdames Scott, M. McCallurn, Tate and Mayall, Misses K. M. Harvey, Manning, Bruce, Mavis McCulloch, Joan Edwards, Margaret Traftord, A. Wvnyard and Nom bright, Messrs. A. J. C. Fisher, J. W. Bailey, T Morgan, A. Bathurst, Norton Hammond, J. F. Montague J. Coppard and Professor W. A. Sewell. Several plays will be presented each night and a matinee performance will be given on Saturday, when five children s plays will be presented. The festival will close with performances by the winning team in each section. The national final will be held at Hastings on October 3, when the judges will be Miss Elizabeth Blake, Mr. Arnold Goodwin and Mr. Paul Leatham. The adjudicator in Auckland will be Mr. Kenneth Brampton formerly producer of the Little Theatie Society. ... , During tine festival four cups will be competed for, the New Zealand Hebald Cup f° r the best all-round performance, the New Zealand Mirror Cup to be awarded to the author of the best New Zealand-written play, the Auckland area committee's cup for the best classical play and the Auckland University College Cup for the best performance by juveniles.
