BUILDING ACTIVITY
WORK IN PALMERSTON NORTH AGGREGATE VALUE £50,000 [by TELEGRAPH—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday Building operations representing an expenditure of over £50,000 are at present in progress in Palmerston North. This figure does not consist mainly of several substantial contracts for business blocks, but covers a wide field of activity in the residential area as well; some £20,000 of the expenditure is for house building. The movement represents a steady and consistent expansion, which has been apparent since about March last. Ihere is £30,000 worth of building at present proceeding in the business area, the major undertaking being the rebuilding of the Commercial Hotel, while extensive alterations, including an addition, are being carried out to the Imperial Hotel in Hangitikei Street. Permits for 27 new houses have been issued by the Palmerston North City Council during the period of a little over two months from June 30 until the present date, and there are about the same number of dwellings at present in the course of erection.
