BENEFIT MEETING CANTERBURY HANDICAP DISCUSSION OF PROSPECTS Considerable interest is being taken in the benefit trotting meeting to be held at Addington to-day by the combined Christchurch trotting clubs and the Canterbury Jockey Club. Telegraphing last evening the Hkuald's Christchurch correspondent stated that the weather was fino and tho track should be in excellent order. The following horses were likely to bo well supported:— Patriotic Handicap.—Discord, Princess Onyx, Little Rota. Canterbury Park Handicap.—Golden Cross, Racketeer, Whippet. Metropolitan Handicap. Graham Direct, Colonial Boy, Peter Locanda. Racing Queen's Handicap.—Double Great, Apollo, Valdor. New Brighton Handicap.—Sandy N., Kotinga, Modern Lady. Owners and Breeders' Handicap.—Real Burton, Grace McElwyn, Prince Author. Relief Handicap.—Silver do Oro, Cloudy Range, Vesuvius. Canterbury Jockey Club Handicap.— Edgar Wallace, Treasure Bond, Black Jester. Tho single pool betting system will be held. Acceptances:—

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP The Riccarton horseman G. Humphries has been engaged to ride Bun Fight in the Wanganui Guineas. Before his departure for Australia last week, the two-.voar old full-brother to Sporting Blood, who was taken with Grand Sport and Sporting Blood, had the name of Sly Fox claimed for him. Father's Choice, who was recently acquired from Mr. F. Allen by Mr. A. Symes, of Hastings, is at present enjoying a spell, and may not be returned to work till the late spring or early summer. It is hoped ho will develop into a useful welter performer. At Sir" Charles Clifford's Stonyhurst Stud this week. Brave Deed, by Antagonist from Gallantry, foaled n filly to Winning Hit. The foal is a sister to Zeebrugge, Doiran, Falkland and Horn's Reef. A partnership has been registered in Gold Vein, who is now a member of C. Pritchard's team at Trentham, between her former part-owner, Mr. H. W. Dixon, and Mr. R. B. Teal. Gold Vein is a maiden five-year-old halfsister by Hunting Song to defunct Bayaero and to Bay Area. Variant is working steadily under P. V. Mason's care at Riccarton, and she will soon make her reappearance in public. The New Zealand Oaks winner lias not raced since she contested the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes last April. A handsome two-year-old halfbrother by Iliad to Guarantee is being handled at Flderslie, and is booked to join D. P. Wilson's stable at Wingatni. The colt met with a mishap when playing in the paddock as a yearling, but now seems thoroughly sound. A couple of Riccarton two-year-olds who have been showing promise in their early sprints are Studley Royal, by Paper Money from Rod Queen, and Nuipai, bv Roydon from First Class Studley Rovnl is trained by F. Holmes and is stated to be vory forward. Rebel Chief has resumed work at Riccarton after a short spell which was necessitated by a minor trouble in one of his feet, from whicH' he has now recovered. He is to bo got ready for early spring meetings. F. Hall has also taken in hand again his Pink Coat— Fairness gelding, but ho will not be ready for some time.

Tn a recent letter to a friend, the Pandwiek trainer Frank MeGrath stated that lie had high hopes of Australia Fair for the Kpsoni Handicap. He had also a good opinion of the New Zcalander Master Mrierly. Peter Pan's trouhlo was shoulder rheumatism, and the horse was rapidly improving. "Unless there is a pood three-year-old out this year." wrote MeGrath, "the old horso will win the cup again."
