LUSK'S EOTORUA TITLE WRIGHT MISSES CHANCES EXCITING THERMAL CUP GAME HARD-FOUGHT FINAL MATCH [BY TELEGRAFn —OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Friday The 'final of tho Hotorua open golf championship was played to-day under cloudy opening conditions, and heavy rain overnight had slowed up the greens, but after tho ninth hole had been played warm sunshine prevailed. The overnight rainfall amounted to .7oin. Tho championship final over 36 holes ■was between H. B. Lusk and 11. D. Wright, both of Auckland, and Lusk won 3 up and 2. The Thermal Cup was won by Gs Pott, of Rotorua, who beat A. Walden, also of Rotorua, at the 37th hole. Wright took the honour. Both found the green with their seconds, Lusk having a loft, advantago. Wright laid n safe 4,, but Lusk holed for a 3. Tho second liolo was halved in fours, Lusk lipping tho hole for a 3. Lusk won the third and fourth, Wright finding trouble at both. Lusk 3 up. The fifth went to Wright, 5—6, Lusk failing off tho tee and missing a short putt. Lusk won the next two and was 4 up. Tho eighth was halved in fours, and with 3—4 at the ninth Lusk turned 5 up. Lusk's Steady Game

Wright was playing stiffly and without confidence, while Lusk was playin,; his own peculiarly steady game. At the 10th Lusk increased his lead to 6 up, and tho 11th was halved in indifferent fives. Wright presented Lusk with tho 12th; alter being 2 on the green, he missed four putts. Lusk 7-up. Tho next three holes were halved in poor golf, Wright missing an opportunity at tho 15th. W right had discarded h'is raincoat, and playing with more freedom, won the 16th, 17th, and 18th in 43 —1. At the latter Lusk missed a short putt. Lusk was 4 up at tho 18th. In the afternoon conditions were fairly good and W right showed muchiinprovec} form. Lusk, in tho early stages, was timid on the green. Ho won tho 19th and was 5 up, but the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd went to W'right. , Chance Missed At .the short 24th Wright missed a chance to equalise, missing a short putt, and the hole was halved. Wild play at the 25th cost Wright the'hole; his drive was wide, his second short, and his- third erratic. Lusk 2 up. A stymie on the lip of the hole at the 2b r th forced Lusk to bo content with a half, and tho 27th was halved in threes. '

The 2Sth went to Lusk 5 —6. At the 29th Wright, by sound play, reduced Lusk's lead to 2. Again failing on the green at the 30t'n, Wright lost the hole. The 31st and 32iul were halved in bogey figures. A stymie at the 33rd gave Wright tho hole. The match ended on the 16th; both overran the green, but W T right, dropping a stroke coming back, lost tho hole and match, 3 and 2. The Thermal Cup

The Thermal Cup was a splendidlycontested event. G. Pott and A. W 7 alden, both of Rotorua, met in the final, the former conceding ono stroke. At the conclusion of the morning round the game was squaro. In tho afternoon there was no gap in the position, the game alternating on bogey figures. With a lead of one at the 35th, Wnlden lay on the green, but in a slight depression. . Pott was bunkered, but recovered well, winning 3 —4. The 36th was halved, and at tho 37th Pott, with a 4'to W'alden's 5, won the match.

Tho winners of additional prizes were: —Pairs best-ball bogey, P. R. Fordhanl and G. H. Scott, 1; F. F. Lintoff and J. Stedman, 2; H. Bateman and C. G. Johnson, 3. Putting: R. Spedding. At the close Mr. E. la T. flill briefly farewelled the competitors, and Mrs. Hill presented the trophies. Mr. H, B. Lusk congratulated the club upon the excellence of tho arrangements and tho course.
