i * HAMILTON PREMISES VISITED ' LITTLE OF VALUE SECURED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday A scries of burglaries has occurred in Hamilton during the last few days, although nothing very valuable appears to liavo been stolen. A small sum of money was reported to bo missing from tho house of Mr. H. J. McMullin, River Road, Hamilton, on Tuesday, entry having apparently been gained through a bathroom window. The back door of Mr. H. D. Caro's departmental storo was found open early on Wednesday morning and, although a thorough search of the premises was made, no trace of an intruder was found. Entry.had been effected through a back window. No goods or money have been reported to bo missing. It is suggested that tho visitor was startled by tho cries of parrots kept in the store, and made a hurried exit. Evidence that the Farmers' Trading Company's branch shop in Hamilton East, and tho Hamilton East post, office had been entered was found on Wednesday morning, but nothing was reported to be missing.

A purso containing 12s, the property of a maid employed in a Knox Street hoarding house, was stolon from a bedroom on Wednesday. The empty purse was later found in a liedgo near the house.

INTRUDER IN BASEMENT ♦ FOILED BY STOUT TRAP-DOOR After breaking a pane of glass and forcing apart two heavy iron bars to gain access to the basement of the promises of J. P. Hooton, Limited, warehousemen and silk importers, at 31-33 Elliott Street, City, an intruder found his way into the upper part of the warehouse blocked by a trap-door, which he was unable to open. Tho broken window and the bent bars were found on Thursday morning. , Tho basement window was reached by the intruder after crossing a vacant section in Albert Street and descending a concreto wall. Nothing of any value was in the basement, however, and, as the man could get no further, he loft without stealing anything.
