BUILDING ACTIVITY

OPERATIONS AT WHANGAREI SCARCITY OF RESIDENCES [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAHEI, Monday A building boom, reminiscent of predepression days, is taking place at Whangarei. Several private residences are in course of construction, and the erection of several large commercial buildings will shortly be commenced, while some have already been .started. The total value of the building operations will be some thousands of pounds. The supply of residential quarters is not equal to the demand, and rents are hardening. Houses which for some time have been let at 15s are now commanding 20s a week.
