AUGUST handicap field KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH'S FORM NIMBUS FANCIED IN SPRINT BY ABAYDOS rpjjO withdrawal of War Buoy from tbf August Handicap, to be run at Kp»oDi on Saturday, has made the raco more open. The six acceptors have all rated successfully at two miles in the province and all are trained either at Epsom or Otahuhu. i Although Auto Machine has not won at the distance for two seasons, and Kcwpie's Triumph for one season, the fact k°th have a 12 yards concession will bring them further into calculations off 72 yards. Kewpie's Triumph was narrowly defeated by Great Logan in the Adams Memorial Cup, Jla,nouevre, limit, Nimbus, 24yds, and Auto Machine, 72vds, finishing behind hirii la t* lo Mark Memorial Handicap he failed to gain a place, Manoeuvre being the winner, while Lady Coronado, 24yds', was third Keivpie's Triumph now meets Manoeuvre on 36yds better terms, and has a 12yds advantage over Lady Coronado, Nimbus and Smooger. If he can reproduce his June form he should / have splendid prospects from 36yds. Chance for Auto Machine On the handicaps, Auto Machine, 36yds, who finished fifth in the Adams Jkmorial Cup and fourth in the Mark Memorial Handicap, when the track was not to his liking, will meet those in front of him on the same favourable terms as Kewpie's Triumph. Since the June meeting be has done better in his training than for some time and is displaying a return of his former brilliance. • Uymptoms of lameness after a fast ffdrlc-out on Saturday have caused some of Auto Machine's supporters a little unwsiness, but unless there are any fujtber developments his prospects aru no; likely to be very seriously affected. A few seasons ago he developed similar trouble a week before the spring meeting, but it did not stop him from winning on a track that was a trifle yielding IJjjQ spite ot the fact that she was considered lucky to win in June, Manoeuvre must be respected off the liiiiit. She has gone along in the right wav in tho interval and carries more condition than when she won the Mark Memorial Handicap. Manoeuvre is quite at borne in soft ground, but she has 'been working oil firmer tracks in a satisfactory manner and has put* up fast time for two miles at Addington under good conditions. Prospects of Nimbus Nimbus is one cf the best-conditioned - ho:r>es in the field, but his prospects will be governed by the state of the going. He has failed to reproduce his bent on heavy tracks, but with the course in reasonably good order he will take a lot of beating. He won well at two miles last season, and prior to coming north took some fast placed records at Addington and Ashburton. He may not be exactly the best °f stayers, but / his muscular condition ahOfikl be a strong factor in his favour. Lady Coronado, who won this race last August, off the 4 32 limit, is not Without prospects, and if the track if« flolding her chance will be enhanced Shj has won all her long-distance races with the sting out of the ground, and, as she ran very creditably to fill a place in June and has had time to make a little improvement, she has a reasonable chance of repeating her success of a year ago. , '■ Ihe Hawera horse Smooger, who has not had the best of luck at Epsom, is nicely placed on 12yds, and it is in his favour that when iu form he can handle any kind of track. Two seasons ago he won several useful two miles races, and last season put up a good tffart to beat Jackie Thorpe at Hamilton- / Track work during tho next few days may throw some further light on the prsspects, but favouritism may be thired by Kewpie's Triumph, Auto Machine and Nimbus. The Sprint Horses Of the seven acceptors for the Masse; f Memorial Handicap, Lady Coronado, Manoeuvre, Smnoger and Nimbus will be seen out in the two miles rnce, find Wee Machine in the Onehunga Handicap, so that their earlier displays slnuld prove a riseful guide. Wee Machine won this race last year .and as he has been doing good track work he should run well off the 2.46 limit. Smooger did not win at the distance lant season, but his thirds at Hairera and Epsom draw attention to his possibilities as a sprinter. Lady Coronado won at Hamilton, where, with a determined "finishing dash, she beat the consistent Bingen Chief. Unless she is successful in the August Handicap, Manoeuvre will be giving away 12yds, hit .this will not prevent her from being very dangerous, as she is smart at the lo irney. ' '<• • Nimbus won'twice at a mile and a-quarter last season, and off 12yds yill take some beating if the ground is firm. If this is- his special mission he laiy be favourite . When in form, the fresh horses, KewPJSB Guy, limit, and Mountain Dell, wyds, are brilliant sprinters, hut they may not be quite ready. Fancies should be well distributed a *d Nimbus, Smooger and Manoeuvre miy fiad most support. Return to race track JIJNE NORDICA, HAERANGA PAI Owing to the fact that they have ~J raced for several seasons, the reappearance of June Nordica and Hao?nga Pai for the coming trotting meetis of interest. -June Nordica last raced in the 1930- * season, when she won three races ° r o.
