TRADE IN AUCKLAND QUIET TONE OF BUSINESS POLLARD POSITION CLARIFIED The grain and produce trade in Auckland is quiet, although most markets remain firm. The principal development over the week has been the settlement of the Australian shipping dispute, thus removing fears of a pollard shortage. POTATOES Iho jnarket for potatoes remains firm. July 1700 sacks arrived by the Waimarino yesterday, this being the smallest shipment this year, but as there were fairly heavy' stocks in merchants' stores supplies should be sufficient. Values through store are around £lO 10s n ton. there is a little better inquiry for seed potatoes, but a period of fine weather is required to enable planting to continue. ONIONS Onions are very firmly held, ns no further supplies are expected for a fortnight. Cali•fornian are worth around 21s a cental and Japanese about 21s 6d per cwt, although higher prices are being asked in some cases. WHEAT There is a_ steady inquiry for fowl wheat at 5s 7d to os 8d a bushel. MAIZE Slightly increased quantifies of maize are coming foward. The market is steady at 4a 3d to 4s 5d a bushel. BARLEY The market for Australian clipped barlev is quiet at 4s 4d a bushel. OATS AXD CHAFF' The oats market remains firm, but is a shade steadier. Prices are unaltered at around 4s Sd a bushel, through store, for B Cartons, and around 5s a bushel for A Cartons. C'haff is steady at £7 15s a ton on the same basis. BRAX AND POLLARD The settlement of the Australian shipping dispute has clarified the pollard position. Stocks are very light hut supplies are expected by the Wanganella. The Australian position is very firm. For delivery ex wharf, pollard is quoted at around £6 17s fid a ton. There is a good inquiry for bran and local supplies are short. Value? are unchanged at £6 5s a ton, through store.
