WANGANUI HORSES

SPIRAL AND MIDIAN A GOOD HALF-MILE GALLOP SPRINT BY LADY HOARIRI [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI. Saturday Weather conditions for training at Wanganui this morning were almost ideal. No. 1 grass track, which was used for fast work, was in really good order after some fairly heavy mid-week rain. Rust, ridden by her trainer, W. Rayner, ran five furlongs in lm ss, the last four in 50 l-ss. She appeared to be going well within herself at the end. Midian worked solidly on the plough and then came out with Spiral for a run over half a mile. Spiral went into the lead at I,he outset and stayed there to finish half a length to the good, registering 50 3-ss, although some watches made the time even faster. The first furlong took 12 4-os and the quarter 255, and as they were well out from the rails it was a very satisfactory effort on the part of both horses. Spiral was being kept up to his task without being bustled, while Midian was travelling smoothly. Ravner's two-year-old fillies Moquette (Limond —Motley) and Imposteure (Posterity—lmpetuous) finished practically on terms over three furlongs in 38 3-ss.

F. Lind sent the Lord Quex filly Mademoiselle Quex over a solid circuit, brushing up the straight in good style without being required to make time. She is furnishing well. Chief Savage (M. Moran) shaped well in a bout over four flights of tho schooling htirtlles, jumping cleanly. Abracadabra had an advantage when she lumped off for a half-mile gallop with Tupeotu, and she was still nearly two lengths ahead at the finish in s'Js, with both easing up slightly. Abracadabra cut out the first furlong in 12 2-5s and the quarter in 24 3-ss. She has built up into a likely sort for early rucing, while Tupeotu was not disgraced by his display. Entail and Corowa strode along over four furlongs without being extended, taking 55 3-ss, the first quarter ili 2Gs. Lady Hoariri, who was physicked during the week, stretched out over three furlongs in 3b 3-ss. She was threatened with a cold, but it does not seem to have developed and if she goes on in the right way she will take her place in the Wereroa Scurry field at New Plymouth on Thursday. Useful work was done by Merry Ruler and The Image, while All Spirit was worked on the roads.
