AMATEUR DRAMA
THE ST. ANDREW'S PLAYERS three presentations given Amateur dramatic performances of praiseworthy merit were presented by the St. Andrew's Players in the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday night, when three typically Scottish plays were performed. There was a large and appreciative audience. A comedv of village life in the early forties, "Till the Bells Ring," by Graham Moffat, was the first production. The humour was delightfully interpreted by a talented cast. Mr. D. McLaren was the producer, and the players were Dorothy Dreaver, Lillias Dollar, Andrew Dollar, Sandy McGregor, George Spicer and Donald Budge. Andrew Dollar gave a particularly good performance as John Snodgrass, an unscrupulous kirk elder. "The Price of Coal," a short drama of the Scottish coalfields, by H. Brighouse, and produced by Mr. J. Gordon Spence, was the second presentation, in which an atmosphere of suspense was cleverly sustained. The parts were taken by May Douglas, Mrs. M. Shields, John Shields and Jan Ferguson.
The third play was "Service Before Self," written and produced by John Howie, a former president of the Auckland St. Andrew's Society. The cast comprised Nan McCrone. May Balderston, Lillian Lugton, jUargaret M. Howie, Willa McGowan, Alec McGowan, Allan Leonard ana Donald .McCrone. In the intervals musical selections were played by an orchestra directed by Miss Lillian Braithwaito.
