LOSS IN JULY I'EKIOD FIRST SINCE OCTOBER NET RETURN £12,917 LOWER [BY TELEGRAPII —OWN CORKESPONPKNT] WELLINGTON, Thursday A decrease of £12,017 in not revenue for the four-weeklv period ended July 20, compared with the corresponding period of last year, is shown by the railway working account, an abstract of which was gazetted to-night. A loss of £663 compares with a working profit of £12,254. For the equivalent period in 1933, there was a surplus of revenue of £20,034. The latest return shows the first working loss to be recorded since the return to October 13 last year. No four-weekly period in 1933 or 1932 produced a loss on working. The gross revenue for the period covered was £439,408, which was £14.503 more than a year ago. Expenses were increased by £27,420 to £410,071. The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £229,469, an increase of £13,990 and expenses totalling £238,016, an increase of £19,460. There was a loss of £8547, compared with a loss of £3083 last year. The receipts of tho South Island railways were £155,744, an increase of £293, and expenses were £171,457, an increase of £6950. There was a working loss of £15,713, compared with £9047. The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £23,597, compared with £24,384 in 1934. The revenue was £54,195, and tho expenditure £30,598. For tho period from April 1 to July 20, the net revenue was £263,675, compared with £275,363 last year. The gross revenue was £1,990,171, an increase of £73,622. The expenditure was £1,726,496, an increase of £85,310.
