YOUTH FATALLY SHOT
ACCIDENT ON FARM [from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU. Monday A fatal shooting accident occurred at Pukeatua, about two miles from the Arapuni hydro-electric works, yesterday morning, the victim being Howard Berwick Welch, aged 17, who was employed as a farm hand by Mr. E. J. Olson. The youth assisted in the milking shed, and later started to drive the herd to a paddock. It was his practice to take with •him a pea-rifle for rabbit shooting. When he did not return to the house yesterday morning a search was made, and the body was found a few hundred yards from the shed, with the rifle lying across the chest. At an inquest held before Mr. G. A. Empson, coroner, of Te Awamutu, today a. verdict of accidental death was returned.
