TEACHING OF SWIMMING
CITY COUNCIL BATHS POSSIBILITY OF CHANGE The question of granting to swimming instructors the right to toach in the baths controlled by the City Council was considered by the council last night. The baths supervisor, Mr. M. Champion, reported that applications for tho privileges had been received from three men and two women, tho most suitable being Mr. D. B. Anderson and Miss Pauline Hoeft. He thought tho fees they ottered, £25 and £l2 respectively, should be increased to £lO and £2O and, failing the acceptance of this by the applicants, that attendants at the baths should lie permitted to teach swimming, with the issue of quarterly tickets for weekly lessons at the rate of £1 10s for men, £1 7s 6d for women and £1 Is for children. Quarterly admission tickets for swimmers who did not desire instruction should remain as at present Several members said tho. matter should como before tho council again and not bo settled by the baths supervisor or tho Parks Committee. The question was referred back' to tho Parks Covnmitteo. »
