Mr. Jones, formerly a lecturer in languages at Cambridge University, was jnotoring with Dr. Herbert Mueller, a German journalist, near Paoehang, 200 *oiles inland from Peking, when bandits U P tho car with shots. They took the passengers prisoner, bub released joe Russian driver, who proceeded to Vr Xalgan with the bandits' demand for iransom of £BOOO. Mr. Lloyd George, on hearing of the outrage, took the matter up in London *ith tho Foreign Ofiioa, which made representations t'to the Chinese Ambassa®or arid the British Ambassador in China. In consequence 500 gendarmes searched the wilds of Inner Mongolia *or the missing man. On July 30, l)r. Mueller telephoned from Paoehang, saying he had been reteased and wiiu going to Xalgan.
