Thursday The Whangarei district rural schools' competitions in football and basketball were completed yesterday in Whangarei in fine though windy weather. Representatives of 40 schools took part in the district competitions this season, and of these, 20 schools were represented in the finals yesterday. A special holiday was granted by the Auckland Education Board to allow of the competitions being finished. The final in the football competition, which was seven-a-side, was won by Waiotira, who defeated Glcnbervie by three points to nil. In the bnsketbnll senior competition, which wss six-a-side, Ruapekapeka defeated Portland, 9—2. In the final of the bantam class Glcnbervie defeated Portland, I—o. In tho goal-throwing competition. Ruapekapeka wns the winner. )=,
