DEATH OF OLD RESIDENTS r ■ ■ EX-SOLDIER'S CAREER Mr. John Wilson, an Ex-Imperial Staff Sergeant-Major of the Eojal Artillery, passed away on" June 19, in his 93rd year. Deceased, who was a man of almost iron constitution, hardly knew a day's illness till just before his death. A tall, soldierly-looking man, he fetained his upright carriage to the last. The last line in his discharge from the Army reads: —"Every inch a soldier." For over 12 years Mr. Wilson was stationed in India, where he took part in many engagements with the border tribes. He was a staunch supporter of the Methodist Church. With Mrs. Wilson, he came to the island, and bought a house and grounds, with a beautiful outlook, and enjoyed a contented and serene old age. His widow and a grownup family, the latter residing on the mainland, survive him. Mr. F. W. Heaps failed to rally after an operation at the hospital for acute appendicitis and peritonitis, and passed away on June 23, aged 66. Deceased came to Norfolk Island as a member of the cable staff over 35 years ago. With the exception of two years, when he was transferred to Fanning Island, he had reside 3 here ever since. After leaving the service of the cable company he was postmaster at Norfolk Island, and subsequently, concentrated on business activities. He is survived by his widow.
