TRUCK DRIVERS' HOURS

DANGER IF TOO LONG Endorsing remarks made at Dargavillo by Mr. W. Jones, chairman of the No. 1 Transport Authority, Mr. A. Grayson, president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), stated yesterday that drivers of commercial vehicles should not be required to work longer than 10 hours a day. There was an element of danger if drivers wore at the wheel for too long without a rest. Mr. Grayson said the association was watching the position, but ho had no knowledge of any accident due to a truck driver falling asleep at the wheel. "I do not think any drivers work 15 hours these days," commented the driver of a truck engaged in a regular service between Auckland and Northern towns. "In my case, tho employer has arranged for us to sleep at each end of tho trip."
