Mr. J. A. Gentles returned from Wellington by train yesterday morn' ing. Mr. G. Baildon was among; the p a g. sengers for the South by the limited express last evening:. Dr. E. P. Ncale, secretary to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, left for the South by train last evening. Mr. E. Casey, assistant general manager of railways, returned to Welling, ton by last evening's limited express. Mr. W. J. Holdsworth returned yesterday from Wellington, where he attended a meeting of the Local Government Loans Board. Mr. W. Ritchie has been re-appointed conciliation commissioner for a period of six months from July 9, says a Wellington Press Association message. Paymaster-Pear-Admiral Sir Kldon Manisty, P.N. (retired), and Lady Manisty will leave Auckland by the Akaroa to-day on their return to England. Mr. Gerald Rosenbaum, managing, director of the Dominion Life Assurance Office of New Zealand, is visiting Auckland. He will return to Wellington next week. Mr. D. R. Caldwell, accompanied by Mrs. Caldwell, will leave by the Monowai to-night for Sydney, en route to Queensland. He will be away for about four months. Mr. J. S. Barton, of Wellington, who was recently appointed chairman of the Bondholders' Incorporation Commission, will leave by the Monowai tonight on a visit to Australia. Mr. C. G. Macindoe, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, will leave bv the Monowai to-night on a business visit to Sydney. He will return by the same vessel, arriving back in Auckland on July 8. The Hon. J. Bitchener. Minister of Public Works, arrived in Auckland yesterday morning from Palmerston North on departmental business. In the afternoon he inspected the improvements at the Hobsonville air base. He left last evening by the limited express on hi 3 return to Wellington. Professor H. G. Denha.ro, of chemistry at Canterbury University College, has been granted leave of absence for the 1936 session to enable him to visit Great Britain Dr. H. L>. Broadhead, lecturer m classics, has been granted leave of absence for the third term, 1935, and the first term, 1936 to enable him to undertake study and 'research in England and on the Continent.
