SERVICE CAR HALTS

TIME FOR CUP OF TEA UNNECESSARY DELAYS PERIOD MUST BE REDUCED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Thursday " Operators of through services by road between Gisborne and Isapier must realise that the route is now on all fours with the railway route and that unnecessarily long halts must e nut down," said Mr. R. F. Gambrill, Chairman of No. 4 District Transport Licensing Authority, at to-day 8 m * e ing. Mr. Gambrill pointed out that it was necessary to speed up the timetable and the over-all time could be substantially lowered if halts at intermediate points were reduced. "The Railway Department allows passengers seven minutes for a cup of tea and it should not be necessary to spend much more time at intermediate points on a motor service route for the same purpose," added the chairman, who referred to the necessity for the education of road passengers as to the obligations of services in relation to their time-tables. The chairman stated the operators on the road should consult as to the details of time-table amendment.
