HEN PHEASANTS SHOT
CONCEALED IN MOTOR-CAR MAN FINED £lO AND COSTS A Papatoetoo resident, William Gall, who was prosecuted by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, admitted in the Magistrate's Court at Otahuhu yesterday a charge of having shot and taken" two hen pheasants at Warkuxrtli on May 3. The society's chief ranger, Mr. James Dobson, said that defendant was in a motor-car, which was searched, and two pheasants found concealed in a pair of iiumboots. The penalty under the Act was £25 for each offence. Defendant said he was shooting in heavy bush and could not distinguish the birds until they were brought down. Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M.: Many persons find themselves in that position, but you took the risk in taking the birds away. Defendant: It was no use leaving them on the ground to rot. A fine of £lO, with costs totalling 335, was imposed.
