RAIN AT NOTTINGHAM THE MATCH ABANDONED LONDON, June 18 Owing to rain there was no play at Nottingham on the third arid final day of the first test cricket match, between England and South Africa., and the match was a bandoned as a draw. The scores were: — It is announced that Wyatt will again captain England in the isecond test match. ENGLAND First innings, seven wickets (dec.) 384 SOUTH AFRICA First innings . . 220 Second innings, one wicket 'tor . . 17 The South African cricketers are to play four more test matches in England (three days each) as follows: — June 29, at Lord's; July 13, at Leeds; July 27, at Manchester; August 17, at the Oval. COUNTY GAMES BOWLER'S FINE FEAT TEN WICKETS FOR 64 LONDON, June 18 ' Rain curtailed all the county cricket matches which were commenced on Saturday. T. B. Mitchell, the Derbyshire spin bowler, playing against Leicestershire, on the latter's ground, took all 10 wickets for 64 in the first innings. This is the first time Mitchell has taken all the wickets in a completed innings. He bowled 19 overs, of which, four were maidens. Four players scored centuries, but T. N. Pearce, Essex amateur, was responsible for the outstanding batting performance. Although he made 7Q»not out and 83, against Cambridge University at Westcliff, he wasi on the defeated side. Results of the various games are:— DERBYSHIRE V. LEICESTERSHIRE Derbyshire.—First innings, 140 (H. A. Smith five for 51, Geary five for 46); second, 227 (Smith four for 57, liarlow five for 69). Leicestershire.—First innings, 123 (Mitchell 10 for 64); second, three for 111. Derbyshire won on the first innings. MIDDLESEX V. YORKSHIRE Middlesex.—First innings, 108 (Smailes five for 23). Yorkshire. —First innings, six for 307 (Barber 107, Mitchell 90). Yorkshire won on the first innings. KENT V. "WARWICK Kent.—First innings, 351 (Valentine 105); second, six for 101, declared. Warwick.—First innings, 243 (Kilner 102; Freeman five for 77); second, none for 60. Kent won on the. first innings. GLAMORGAN Y. NOTTS Glamorgan.—First innings, 326. Notts. —First innings, three for 189. The match was drawn. NORTHANTS V. SOMERSET Northants.—First inn Lags, 238 (Timms 70); second, five fen- 118. Somerset. —First innings, 127 (Per- - kins five for 43). Northants won on the first innings. LANCASHIRE V. SURREY Lancashire.—First innings, eight for 357, declared; second, none for 35. Surrey.—First innings, 300 -(Holmes 101). :f, Lancashire won on the first inningg. SUSSEX V. HAMPSHIRE Sussex.—First innings, 383 (John Langridge 84). Hampshire.—First innings, 144 (James Langridge five for 22); followon, none for 20. Sussex won on the first innings. ESSEX V. CAMBRIDGE Essex.—First innings, 157 (Pearce 70 not out); second, 259 (Pearce 83). Cambridge.—First innings, 319 (Yardley 78); second, three for 98. Cambridge won by seven wickets.
