OPPOSITION TO WAR

WOMEN OF THE WORLD GENERAL BOOTH'S FAITH LONDON, June 18 General Evangeline Booth, head of the Salvation Army, in an interview to-day, said she was convinced that women's influence would play an increasing part in the progress of the world, which, she contended, is only now discovering woman's capacity. "It is not alone on women's influence," General Booth said, "that I base my opinion that there will not be another war. " I have too much faith in the wisdom of men and too strong a belief that the universal display of anti-war feelings is firmly founded to accept the theory that war is probable."

NEW PEACE BILL LIBERAL'S PROPOSALS MEASURE BEFORE COMMONS LONDON, June IS By the King's consent, as it involves his treaty-making prerogative, a Peace Bill is to be introduced in the House of Commons by Mr. G. Mander (Liberal —Wolverhampton East). Copies of the measure have been circulated. It incorporates that statute law of obligations in regard to the maintenance of peace and machinery for the peaceful settlement of international disputes embodied in the Covenant of the League of Nations and other treaties, and fixes January 1 for its coming into force. The bill provides for the participation of Britain by Royal proclamation in economic sanction after both Houses have approved, and also makes unlawful the use of armed forces of the Crown in any manner contrary to the instruments of international agreement. The bill would permit the King's subjects to enlist in any international armed police force which the League might create.
