HEAVY RAIN IN OTAGO

POSSIBILITY OF FLOODS WARNINGS TO FARMERS LAWRENCE ROAD UNDER WATEF [by telegraph OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Tuesday Heavy and almost continuous rain over a large part of Otngo shire the early hours of this morning suggest the possibility of floods in various parts of the province. The road to Lawrence was under water to-night in the vicinity of Waitahuna to a sufficient depth to prevent the passage of motor traffic, but it is expected to be clear in the morning.

There are several feet of water over the Main South Road, near Warepa, and also between Titri and Milton. Warnings have been issued to farmers on the Taieri Plain and those who occupy low-lying properties are engaged in the task of removing their stock to higher levels. In the Clutha district the Molyneux River is causing no concern, but many small creeks have overflowed and there is a great deal of surface water in the city itself. More than an inch of rain has fallen to-day and although the Leith and Lindsay's Creek, in the North-east Valley, are both very high it is not considered probable that either will actually overflow its banks tonight.
