MOTOR-CAR STRIKES POLE
THREE OCCUPANTS INJURED MANUKAU ROAD ACCIDENT The three occupants of a motor-car which struck a telegraph pole after swerving to avoid a collision with another car at the oprner of Manukau Road and Epsom Avenue about 10.30 yesterday morning, were injured. The driver, Mr. William Thomas Locke, milk vendor, of Arthur Road, Mount Roskill, escaped with cuts and abrasions. His wife, Mrs. Gwendoline Margaret Locke, aged 29, who was sitting beside him, suffered concussion and a fracture of an arm, and a passenger in the back seat, Noreen Fcck, aged 12, of Dominion Road Extension, Mount Roskill, suffered concussion and abrasions.
Mr. Locke was driving his car along Manukau Iload toward tho city and to avoid a collision with another car, which appeared out of Epsom Avenue, he swerved to the left. Rain was falling at tho time. The car struck tho kerb and then collided heavily side-on with a telegraph polo. The chassis of the vehicle was bent into tho shape of a crescent and tho bodywork was badly damaged. Tho rear wheels also wero smashed.
All three occupants of tho damaged car were taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance, but after treatment Mr. Locke was able to proceed to his home. The condition of tho other two persons was stated last night to bo not serious.
