STARTLING EXPLOSION
LORRY LOADED WITH PETROL DRIVER INJURED IN FIRE [by telegraph—own correspondent] NAPIER, Saturday As a result of an accident in which a lorry which ho was driving and which was loaded with 120 gallons of benzine, caught fire near Pakipaki last night, Mr. David Priest, of To Aute, is a patient in a hospital at Hastings, suffering from severe burns. His condition is reported as painful but not serious. The accident had not been reported to the Hastings police to-day and it has not yet been possible to ascertain the details, but apparently tho lorry was being driven by Mr. Priest with his father, Mr. Georgo Priest, as a passenger. The latter was not injured. When the fire broke out it was impossible to do anything toward subduing tho flames or removing tho benzine. Tho fire made an alarming sight and ultimately the benzino exploded with a sound that startled tho whole neighbourhood. The lorry was completely destroyed.
