FARM TRAINING

COURSE AT RUAKURA FORTY AUCKLAND BOYS Arrangements have been concluded with the Agricultural Department fori a patty of 40 of the boys who havo been placed on farms by the Auckland Boys' Employment Committee to undergo a course of training at the Ruakura Farm School from June 17! to June 28. The course will include all aspects of dairy farming and fat lamb raising and other farm activities, such as cultivation and veterinary science. It is designed to augment as fully as possible in the short time available the practical training the boys have received on their employers' farms.

During this period the students at the school will be on holiday, but the teaching staff will be available, and will be supplemented by several lecturers from outside sources. One of these will be Mr. P. W. Smallfield, fields superintendent at Auckland. The president of the Auckland Boys' Employment Committee, Sir Joseph. Smith, last night paid a tribute to the employers who were generously allowing the boys to leave their farms for the period, at some inconvenience to themselves. Sir Joseph also praised the action of the department in allowing the use of its buildings and instructors. It was hoped that this course would become an annual institution, but "this would depend on the response and progress made by the boys themselves.
