PHAR LAP'S RIDER

JOCKEY AND HIS DEBTS £205 OWING FOR MEAT William Francis Elliott, of Caulfielo* Melbourne, the jockey who rode Phar; Lap in America in 1932, made an application recently in the County Court, Melbourne, before Judge Magennis, to; pay by instalments a judgment for £2O-5 17s 10d, with £4 2s costs. The judgment was obtained against him in March by Flemington. and W. Reynolds Meat and Export Proprietary, Limited. Counsel who appeared on Elliott's behalf submitted an affidavit that the, latter owed £205 for meat. He owned a house worth £2OOO, but it was mortgaged for £I4OO. In addition, he had payments to meet for a car and a player: piano, insurance and rates. Counsel for the company said that, the affidavit was silent. about Elliott's; earnings. He was one of the leading l jockeys.

An order was made for the payment' of £SO down and £ls a month.'
