GOODS FOR SERVICES
RUAWARO FARMER'S PLAN SCHEME NOT SUPPORTED [FROM OUR OWN CORRESrONDEXT~I HAMILTON, Saturday A plan designed to develop the cooperative effort between town and country was submitted to the Waikato executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union by Mr. J. H. Furniss, of Ruawaro, at a meeting yesterday. Mr. Furniss suggested that the unemployed of the towns should give their services to the farmers of the country in tho off-dairying season in exchange for farm produce. Mr. Furniss said it frequently happened that farmers had goods for which they had no use, and they would be pleased to exchange these goods for labour which they needed on their farms, but for which they were unable to pay in the usual way. Mr. Furniss proposed that a committee be appointed to investigate the feasibility of the proposal, and - to ascertain the views of responsible townspeople with respect to the plan. Several speakers present' expressed doubt whether the proposal had any chance of being adopted, and after a good deal of discussion the matter was dropped.
