NOTES ON THE FORM

PLAYER AT FIRST START [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT 1 OAMARU, Saturday A hot favourite Discord led from start to finish in the Innovation Handicap and was the only horse to run the journey with out making a mistake. Only four years old. Discord has shown great consistency and should develop still further. Sonoma Boy lost ground at the start- but afterwards trotted soundly. Player, a three-year-old from O E. Hooper's stable making her first appearance under colours, made an exhibition of the fieln in the Advance Handicap. With Self and Nelson Dale she made all the running and won comfortably In a great finish for second Tricliff jußt defeated Seamark. The President' 6 Handicap provided a most exciting race, for after Prairie King and Queen Author had made all the running Bracken dashed to the front and appeared to have the race in hand, while Taxpayer was pocketed. Taxpayer got clear a hundred yards from the post and finished with a great burst of speed to win handsomely He is right back to his best form The American filly Airflow gave further evidence of her ability uhen she fairly outclassed the field in the Waikaura Handicap. At no stage was she troubled and she simply jogged in. There was a great set-to in the Enfield Handicap, which was responsible for a sterling effort by Craganour, who lost ten lengths at the start and waß still last three furlongs from home. He then put in a great run and fifty yards from the post was in front. He just failed in a fighting finish with Master Roy and Rey Stiec. Most of the pace in the Electric Handicap was made by the unhoppled trotter Admiral Bingen, who was beaten only in the last hundred yards by Directum and Rocks Ahead. Directum's win was his second within a week. Admiral Bingen, who paid close on double-figures for third, ran a great race.

Potter the two-year-old colt Tai Yang, who will be shipped to Sydney en route to India by the Monowai to-morrow. Tai Yang is a brown colt by Pa adin from the imported made Black Eyed Sue, by He—Anthracite, by Orby. He wns bred by Mr. L W Nelson. of Whnngarei, and was acquired early in the season by Mr. Potter. So far Tai Yang has Rod only one race and in that he was unplaced, although he displayed speed after being slow away.

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP The latest additions to 3 V 7. Cathro's team at Takanim are Tin Lap and King Ara. who were formerly trnine<) at Te Aroha. Ti" Lap has run Rime credible races in hack c m ■ ny and '8 f airly smart over short courses. She perfoms best when the stins is out of the ground. Mr. N. Wade has disposed of the two-year-old filly Whirlette. by Whirlwind from Pellet, and she is to be shipped to Perth this week. Whirlette had had only one race and on thai occasion performed encouragingly. showing a fair amount of pace. Expectancy is again spelling and her stablemates. Nun Nicer and Ebb and Flow, have also been eased up. Expectancy has been unlucky and it is unfortunate for her connections that she has been troubled with sorentss at • arious times, as she is a smart galloper who would otherwise have won more races. The jumper Fmanci- at on is being allotted a good deal of long, elow work a' Takunini ana lie be..is . h.althy appearance. Krnanc pation l-as two minor placing in the Great Northern Hurdles and is a sound stayer who should have excellent prospects if produced fit this year. His doings in the next few weeks will be watched with interest. Full Measure and Ganpat are jumpers who have lately being going along very satisfactorily in their work at Takanini. Full Measure is a very capable hurdler when fit and would probably have a much better record than lie possesses only for the fact that he has on a couple of occasions been kep! out of action for fairly long periods owing to injuries. A sale oi thoroughbred steck in the estate of the late Mr. M. Keenan was held at Hoki tika on Monday, the following sales being effected:—Para, by Absurd—Cintra. with filly foal by Nightmarch, lo Mr. E. Williams (Bokitika), 105 guineas, Gorinthic, by Sol ferino—Grcenstreet, in foal to Prince War den, W. Chisnall (Hnri Hnri), 7 guineas; Purazel, by Polazel—Para. 3yrs, M.
