BIRD MIGRATION
INFORMATION SOUGHT APPEAL BY GERMAN STATIONS "The Government han received through official channels a statement from the German Embassy, London, regarding the activities of German bird research stations," said Sir Alexander Young, Minister of Internal Aifairs, in an interview in Wellington. "This statement conveys the information ihat annually more than 160,000 wild birds; are liberated with rings attached to their feet by the two German station# and. their numerous lielpero., "Inscriptions and figures on tho rings enable reports to Ite received from all quarters. JBvery year., in fact, several thousand reports, from South Africa to the Arctic Ocean reach 'tho two bird observatories regarding their ringed birds. Tikis work haw results o:E scientific importance and. reveals quite new discoveries regarding bird miration ;iind other phenomena of bird life. "It is unusual for European special of birds to x-esich New Zealand by migration, only sea birds from tho North Atlantic, such as the Arctic tern, having been detected. The New Zealand Government has, however, promised to give publicity ix> the matter in case any ringed birdii from Iho stations should be found.
