DROP IN TEMPERATURE
WARM CLOTHES IN DEMAND The approach of winter was forcibly brought home to Auckland residents yesterday by a very distinct drop in temperatures, which made warm clothes much in demand. Although the day was generally fine, many people in Queen Street were wearing overcoats even at mid-day. Temperatures have been low all this week, the thermometer never having reached 70 degrees, but general opinion was that yesterday was the coldest day this season. The minimum temperature was not so low as on Thursday, when 49 degrees was registered, compared with 52 yesterday, but that the temperature during the day was lower was shown by the fact that the thermometer reading at 4 p.m. yesterday was only 58 degrees, compared with 63 degrees on Thursday.
