ASSAULT AT DANCE

MISUNDERSTANDING CAUSED HEAVY EXPENSES INCURRED Appearing on summons, Arthur Percival Ogg, cabinet-maker (Mr. Hall Skelton), was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in tho Police Court yesterday, with assaulting H. E. Blomfield, at Oneroa, Waihcko Island. The offence was admitted. Senior-Detective Hall said defendant was at a dance with his fiancee, who, on account of the hot night, agreed to " sit out " the dance with complainant. Defendant seriously attacked complainant, who suffered concussion and was admitted to hospital. Tho expenses were now in excess of £l7. Defendant was a hard-working young man, Jout_ho lost control of himself completely. Counsel, who said the expenses would probably be £2O, stated that defendant and complainant were not friends. Actually the young woman had felt faint, and complainant was holding her. Defendant misunderstood the circumstances, and thought complainant was attacking the girl. On seeing that complainant was badly hurt defendant arranged for a launch to tako him to the city. " Ho has had sufficient punishment," said the magistrate, who convicted defendant and ordered him to come up for sentence when called 011 within six months. Payment of the expenses within that period was ordered.
