ITALY AND ABYSSINIA
SERIOUS SITUATION STATEMENT BY MUSSOLINI TROOPS IN SOMALILAND A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 21, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 20 A special correspondent of the Daily Express, Mr. Harold Pemberton, who was lately in Abyssinia, where he interviewed the Emperor, describes in a telegram from Rome how Signor Mussolini invited him to the Foreign Office and interviewed him, " rapping out questions with the precision of a machine-gun." The correspondent says he told Signor Mussolini his impression was that the Emperor wanted peace and would grant all demands approved by the arbitrators of the League of Nations. Signor Mussolini's only comment was that the situation was serious, and he explained that Italy was occupying only a small area of ground in Somaliland and was badly placed strategically. Her troops were there only as a precautionary measure.
