MILITARY CAMPS
WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES TRAINING AT ROTORUA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA. Saturday The Waikalo Mounted Rifles, consisting of 15 officers and 235 other ranks recruited from the Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts, are encamped' at Arawa Park, Rotorua, for the annual camp training. The regiment is commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel T. Paterson, with Captain A. J. M. Clachan as adjutant. The camp presents an orderly and active appearance. The troops received veterinary instruction at the outset, the care and value of the horse in active service being strongly emphasised. The course of training is of a comprehensive character, and includes protection against gas attack, defence against aircraft, protection of lines of communication, the system of picketing, scouting and patrol, rifle exercises and fire discipline. The officers speak well of the keenness < of the men. The evacuation of the camp will take place on Tuesday. NORTHERN MOUNTED TROOPS TEN DAYS' COURSE PLANNED [by TELEGRAPH —OWN corresponded] WHANGAREI, Sunday The North Auckland Mounted Rifles will go into camp at Kensington Park, Whangarei, on May 1. It is expected that about 275 men will attend the camp, which will continue until May 11. Lieutenant-Colonel W- R. Lang, M.C.. will be in command, with Major H. G. Carruth as second in command, and Captain H. M. Fosster as adjutant. On Monday, May 6, a ceremonial parade will be held to celebrate tie King's silver jubilee.
