AURORA AUSTRALIS
Sir, —On Tuesday and Thursday, April 9 and 11, there occurred displays of the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights. Neither display was remarkably brilliant, but one at least appears to have been visible over most of the North Island, and seems to have shown somewhat divergent forms in different localities. In view of this, [ should welcome reports from any of your readers who may have been fortunate enough to witness either display. Even the briefest or reports will be appreciated, but as many as possible of the following details should be included: —Time of observation, condition of the sky, form of the light, its height and extension along the horizon, expressed if possible in degrees, the colour of the light. Drawings and sketches, especially if they show some of the more prominent stars in the region of the glow. will be particularly valuable. Observations should be forwarded to me at my address, Otekura, South Otago. M. Geddes. Director, Aurorae and Zodiacal Light Section, New Zealand Astronomical Society.
