FREE TRIPS FOR CLERGY
STEAMERS ON WAKATIPU Speaking on the attractions of Queenstown, when moving that a call from the congregation there to the Rev. D. K. Boyd, of Malvern, be left in the latter's hands, the Rev. J. W. Robertson caused some amusement at a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery by mentioning that ministers of religion travelled free of charge on all Government steamers on Lake Wakatipu. It was not the Government's fault, he said, that no charge was made. When the steamers were first run by a private company this was the rule, and when the service had been taken over by the Government the clause in the contract providing for the continuance of this concession had been quite unnoticed when the contract was signed, so ministers still travelled free.
