OLD PRINTING PRESS
MACHINE RECENTLY FOUND PARTS TO BE ASSEMBLED [from OUlt OWN correspondent] TE AWAMUTU. Tuesday A party of members of the Tc A warn utu Historical Society visited the Poktiru district at the week-end to recover the old printing press recently discovered there. They found the main parts lying near the bank of the VVaipa River, not far from the site of a former Maori village, and these have been brought Lo Tc Awamutu. Further search will be made for some of the missing parts, in the hope that the machine may be practically rebuilt. The exposure of the press to the weather for so many vears precludes the possibility of its ever again being used, but it will make a valued addition to the society's growing collection of relics of the early davs of this district. |
